Health Conditions

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Blood pressure is the term given to the pressure needed within the arteries to pump blood to the various parts of the body. When the force of this pressure increases above the normal levels, called High Blood Pressure (or Hypertension), it could cause serious cardio-vascular problems.  Fortunately, once identified, hypertension often can be controlled to some degree with changes in diet and lifestyle.

High blood pressure can be treated by regulating weight, diet as well as lifestyle changes such as exercising, quitting smoking, and limiting the intake of caffeine and alcohol. Additionally, introducing added nutrients to your body such as calcium, antioxidants, vitamin D and magnesium, through dietary supplements also help keep it in check.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL

Cholesterol is a substance found in the blood. This waxy, fat-like substance comes from the diet, but is primarily made by the liver, and is an essential component of cell membranes. The body also uses it to produce hormones and vitamin D. Cholesterol is carried through the bloodstream attached to two different compounds called lipoproteins:

Low-density lipoproteins (LDL), commonly known as the “bad cholesterol”, carries cholesterol from the liver throughout the body, making it available and potentially allowing it to be deposited in artery walls
High-density lipoproteins (HDL), known as the “good cholesterol”, picks up cholesterol from the blood and delivers it to cells that use it, or back to the liver to be recycled or eliminated from the body

High levels of LDL in the bloodstream can lead to several health related problems. However, high cholesterol levels can be checked through a low cholesterol diet and nutritional supplements containing essential fatty acids and anti-oxidants.

PAINFUL JOINTS

Smooth tissue called cartilage and synovial, and a lubricant called synovial fluid cushion the joints so that bones do not rub together. But increasing age, injury or even sitting the wrong way can cause wear and tear in your cartilages. This can lead to a reaction that can damage your joints and lead to pain.

This condition can be avoided by keeping your core strong through exercise and building muscle resistance. A strong back and abs help reduce the chances of having joint pain. Additional supplements including calcium, vitamin D and vitamin C help not only prevent but also tackle joint pain.

In order to prevent or treat osteoporosis, it is essential to include certain nutrients in your diet, through your food intake or Dietary Supplements. These include potassium, magnesium and vitamin C, for higher bone mass; calcium, one of the essential components of bones, to keep them healthy and strong through your life; and Vitamin D to help facilitate the effect of calcium on the bones.

DIABETES

Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body cannot properly convert food into energy. Most food that a person eats is eventually broken down into blood glucose, which cells need for energy and growth. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose enter cells. In the case of diabetes, the body does not make enough insulin, or it does not respond to insulin properly. This causes glucose to build up in the blood instead of moving into the cells. The most common type of diabetes is type 2.

While there have been no conclusive results for dietary supplements curing diabetes, it has been found that nutrients such as vitamins, chromium, magnesium and vanadium help reduce the effects of diabetes and increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

Prostatitis is often described as an infection of the prostate. It can also be an inflammation with no sign of infection. This may be in two forms: Acute Prostatitis, often caused by bacterial infection or Chronic Prostatitis caused by recurrent infection.

Prostate Cancer is the cancer of the Prostate gland, caused by the development and spread of cancer cells. While traditional medicine is hesitant about using supplements to cure conditions of the prostate, newer research has found that certain nutrients, obtained through dietary supplements are useful to curb inflammation, prevent the production of cancer cells and even induce death to existing ones.

HORMONE IMBALANCE

Hormones are chemical substances transported through our blood to the different parts of our body to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action. They affect our brain, heart, bones, muscles, and reproductive organs, and are an essential part of the workings of every cell in the human body. Hormones work in complete sync with each other for the smooth functioning of our body. Therefore, when there is an imbalance of hormones in the body, it leads to several health problems.

Most often associated with women, hormonal imbalances could be caused by stress, menopause, poor diet, poor sleep cycles and a sedentary lifestyle. Symptoms include hot flashes, insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, low libido, depression and mood swings.

Adding plant extracts and Vitamin D to your diet, through supplements, helps regulating the secretion of hormones by the corresponding glands and this helps bring the balance of hormones back in the body.
